Brief biography of the President

  • Yong-duck Jung is president of the Geumgang University and professor emeritus at the Seoul National University.

    He has served as chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Chongshin University, professor and senator at the Seoul National University, trustee of the Hansung University, president of the Korean Social Science Research Council, the Korea Institute of Public Administration, and the Korean Association for Public Administration, and council member of the IPSA’s Research Committee on Globalization and Governance, the ASPA’s Section on Chinese Public Administration, the Japanese Association for Study of Political Society, and the Academic Council of the USC Schwarzenegger Institute for State and Global Policy.

    Professor Jung has acted at the editorial board of several academic journals including Governance, International Public Management Journal, Korean Journal of Policy Studies (editor) and Korean Public Administration Review (editor).

    He has consulted to a wide variety of public organizations, including member of the Presidential Committee for Administrative Reform, the Presidential Committee on Local Autonomy Development, the Organizing Committee for 6th Global Forum on Reinventing Government, and the Korean National Commission for UNESCO, chair of the Innovation Committee of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Financial Performance Evaluation Committee of Ministry of Planning and Budget, the Anti-Corruption & Civil Rights Innovation Unit, and co-chair with Prime Minister of the Public Service Evaluation Committee and the Administrative Information Sharing Committee.

    Dr. Jung has been known as an international authority in the subjects of Korean public policy and administration, comparative state institutions and capacity, and governance and public leadership.

    He has written and edited many books including The State Apparatuses in Korea and Japan, Collaborative Governance in the United States and Korea, Public Conflicts and Policy Coordination Leadership, and The Korean State, Public Administration and Development.

    He studied at the Seoul National University, the California State University at Eastbay, and the University of Southern California, obtaining BS, MPA and PhD in Public Administration, and was research scholar at the London School of Economics and academic visitor at the Free University of Berlin.
