금강어학원, 외국인 한국어 말하기∙글짓기 대회 입상

-말하기 부문 2위, 글짓기 부문 3위

지난 10월 8일 한글날을 맞아 한남대학교에서 개최한 ‘제4회 전국 외국인 한국어 말하기∙글짓기’ 대회에서 바야르마(불교학전공 1학년, 몽골 유학생)팀이 말하기 부문에서 2위(한글상), 글짓기 부문에서 키미지마 나츠미(금강어학원. 칸다외어대 교환학생)가 3위(집현전상)로 각각 입상했다.

이날 대회에는 25개 국적의 외국인 242명이 참가했으며, 우리대학은 글짓기 대회에 개인별 3명, 말하기 대회에 2팀 8명이 참가하였다.

나츠미는 ‘김치’를 소재로 글짓기 대회에 참가했으며, 바야르마를 비롯한 7명(오체(몽골), 레이(필리핀), 장천천(중국), 왕동설(중국), 나츠미(일본), 사토루(일본))은 ‘이해할 수 없는 한국인’이라는 주제로 팀을 이뤄 말하기 대회에 각각 참가했다.

말하기 대회에 참가한 바야르마팀은 현재 방영되고 있는 TV 프로그램인 ‘미녀들의 수다’를 모방하여 MC를 사토루가 맡고, 나머지 여학생들은 미녀로 출연하여 연극을 진행했다. ‘가족 이외의 사람에게 왜 오빠라는 호칭을 쓸까?’, ‘한국 아주머니들은 왜 파마머리를 할까?’, ‘왜 한국 사람들 중에 안경을 쓰는 사람이 많을까?’ 등의 의문점들을 주제로 다루었다고 한다.

참가 학생들의 소감...
-(모두 똑같이) 놀라워요, 기뻐요, 라인정 교수님 감사합니다...
-(사토루)일주일도 되지 않는 짧은 기간 동안 대회 준비를 해서, 상을 받는 것을 기대하기 보다는 참가하는 데 의의를 두었는데, 너무 기쁘다.
-(왕동설)2등이라는 큰 상을 받게 된 것이 믿을 수 없을 정도이다.
-(오체)준비 기간 동안 굉장히 즐거웠다.
-(레이)서로 도와주고, 연극 연습을 하면서 친구들과 많이 친해져서 좋았다.
-(장천천)상을 받게 되어 굉장히 기뻤다. 앞으로 ‘미녀들의 수다’ 프로그램에 직접 참여하고 싶은 꿈이 생겼다.
-(나츠미)말하기 대회에도 참가하였기 때문에 글을 쓰는 시간이 부족해서 글짓기에 대해 기대를 전혀 하지 않았는데, 말하기상과 함께 글짓기상도 받게 되어 놀랍고 기뻤다.

▣ 라인정 교수(금강어학원) 인터뷰
수많은 외국인 학생들이 참가하는 전국대회에서, 외국인 학생 수가 스무명 남짓인 우리학교에서 11명이 참가한 가운데 이렇게 큰 성과를 거둬 너무 기쁘다. 우리학교 어학원도 이만하면 소수정예 엘리트가 아니겠는가. 타 대학의 경우 한국 선생님들이 기획이나 원고에 많은 관여를 하는 편이나, 우리대학은 외국인의 시각에서 보는 외국인다운 발상을 할 수 있도록 기획이나 원고를 스스로 준비토록 했다. 그것이 오히려 상을 받을 수 있었던 요인으로 부각된 것 같다. 어학원 학생들 스스로의 힘으로 일궈낸 결과이기에 더욱 기특하고 뿌듯하다.

한편, 금강어학원은 2005학년도 5월 『외국인 한국어 말하기 대회』(충남대학교 언어교육원 주최)에서 무라야마 아이가 영예의 최우수상을, 10월 『외국인 백일장과 예쁜 손글씨 쓰기 대회』(충남대학교 언어교육원 주최)에 참가해 5명이 입상하는 성과를 거둔 바 있다.

GU Foreign Students Get a Prize at Speaking & Writing Contest

- The second place in speaking section, and the third place in writing section

At “The 4th Annual National Korean Language Speaking and Writing Contest” held by HanNam University on 8th of October marking the HanGulNal, Bayarma(Mongolian), Ochek(Mongolian), Rey Beth(Filipino), Changchonchon(Chinese), Wangdongsol(Chinese), Nachmi(Japanese), Satoru(Japanese) got the second prize (HanGul Prize) in the speaking section. At the same time Nachmi got the third prize in the writing section (JibHyunJun Prize) by writing about ‘Kimchi’. The speaking team covered the subject “Strange things we observed in Korea”

On that day 242 foreigners from 25 countries participated in the contest, our foreign students participated in writing section with three entries, and speaking section with only one entry.

Imitating the TV program “Minyodel ey Suda” which is aired currently, Satoru played the MC role, and other girls played as beautiful women. The team covered such subjects: “Why Koreans use “Obba ( It means ‘older brother’ )” to men who is not a real family member?”, “Why married Korean women have the same curly hair?” and “Why most Koreans wear glasses?”.

Participants’ impressions:
-(everyone) It was so amazing! Thanks La In-jeong professor!
-(Satoru) We had only short time to prepare it, so I didn’t expect to get the prize. But now… so happy!
-(Wangdongsol)It’s unbelievable that we got that big prize!
-(Oche) I was so happy during the practice time.
-(Rey) ‘We helped each other and played during our break time, so we got the chance to bond.
-(Changchonchon) I’m so happy! Now, I hope I can join the real TV program we imitated.
-(Nachemi) I prepared two sections, so I didn’t have enough time. I’m glad I got two prize! So exciting!

▣ The interview with Professor La In-jeong (GeumGang Language School)

This contest was national one with numerous foreign students participated. Our school has only twenty odd foreign students. Eleven out of them produced an excellent result during the competition. I’m so proud of them. This result may be enough to make known GeumGang Language School as the best educational school for a few of the best. While in the case of other universities Korean teachers concern a lot about a plan or a script, but our school let the students prepare the script or plan themselves in order to encourage them to think as foreigners indeed. I guess that it was the key factor to win. Language School students brought this result themselves, and they filled my heart with pride.

GeumGang Language School has excellent records that Murayama Ai got the highest award at The Foreigner Speaking Contest on 2005 May, and five students got the prize at The Writing and Calligraphy Contest for the Foreigner on 2005 October.
